SINGLE FAMILY HOME

Dexter Rd - Melrose

Topography-Informed Design & Natural Ledge Integration

Situated on a lot defined by classic Melrose topography—featuring a steep elevation gain and prominent bedrock outcroppings—the Dexter Road residence demonstrates how thoughtful site design can transform natural terrain constraints into striking architectural features. Rather than executing heavy site manipulation to force a standard footprint onto the land, Szecon engineered the home to step into and harmonize with the natural grade.

The site's pre-existing rock wall was preserved and integrated directly into the landscape design, serving as a structural backdrop that frames a private rear patio and effectively creates an additional outdoor living room. Dedicated architectural lighting was installed along the ledge face to highlight its texture and depth after dark, recasting a rugged natural obstacle as a dramatic visual centerpiece for the entire property.
