Going Vertical
From Foundation to Framework: The Logistics and Resilience Behind Cedar Park One64’s Rising Skyline
While we aren’t quite finished “going deep”—there is still a significant amount of underground drainage work in progress—the project recently reached a major visual milestone: We’ve officially gone vertical.
Excavation and foundations are the unsung heroes of any build. They are the most critical for stability, but once the back-filling is done, the site looks much like it did when we started. That changed with the arrival of steel on site. For the first time, the outline of the building has dimension, and the footprint of the future lobby and amenities is taking tangible shape.
The first shipment of steel arrived just in time for the real winter weather to bury the site in snow. While 17 inches of snow might have deterred a less determined crew, it only caused us a brief pause for snow removal.
We hit the ground running immediately after, proving that schedule certainty is about more than just technology—it’s about boots-on-the-ground resilience.
From Factory to Field: The Assembly
Remember the VR 3D-overlay inspections we conducted at the fabrication facility? (Read that report here). That precision is now paying dividends. The steel was delivered in stages and assembled with the same accuracy we saw on the factory floor.
The "erector set" phase has moved quickly. As of this week, we only have some bolt tightening and sheeting to install and we’ll soon be ready to pour the concrete to complete the platform.
And we were able to follow the progress of beam 3P93. We first spotted it waiting to be loaded on a truck in the factory. Before we knew it, we spotted it in it’s final location adjacent to staircase #2, near the front of the building.
Defining the Horizon: The Elevator Shaft
If you’ve passed by the site recently, you’ll notice the tallest structure currently standing is the concrete elevator shaft. More than just a functional core, this structure serves as a vertical "ruler," giving the first real indication of the finished building’s height and presence on the street.
Happy St Patrick’s Day and a Steel Topping Out
March 17th was a perfect day to celebrate the installation of our final steel beam. Although the building is currently only one story tall, and still has 4 more floors of wood frame to go, we are preparing to say goodbye to our steel crew. We want to thank them for their hard work and for making incredible progress—all while maintaining the highest safety standards through multiple snowstorms and record-breaking cold.
We held a mini-version of the centuries-old tradition where the crew signs the final beam before it is hoisted into place, adorned with an evergreen tree and an American flag. The tree symbolizes good luck and growth, while the ceremony itself celebrates the fact that no injuries were sustained during construction. The signatures of the the crew on the beam turns a piece of structural steel into a permanent time capsule of their hard work. After the crew watched the last beam rise, we celebrated with pizza from a local favorite, Theo’s Pizzeria. We even had a special audience—a group of preschoolers out for a walk stopped to watch the big event!
Looking Ahead
Going vertical is where the planning meets the pavement. Seeing the coordination between the steel erectors, the masonry teams, and the site logistics crews all overseen by our General Contractors, Essex Building Corp, gives us continued confidence in the timeline for Cedar Park One64. We aren't just building a structure; we're orchestrating a complex puzzle where every piece, from the underground pipes to the top of the elevator shaft, has a designated home.
